Linden Police Department LINDEN — After a five month investigation, two people have been arrested and charged with theft by deception after they ran bogus Craigslist ads promoting apartments for rent, police said. Allan Betancourt and Myra Sullivan, also known as Marcos Cardenas and Mirna Grant, made more than $9,000 from “multiple victims,” police said. In August the department announced that couples from Linden and Elizabeth had been victims of the scam, combining to spend close to $5,000 on what they thought was an apartment in Linden. The Elizabeth couple, they said, paid $2,650 in cash, which they believed covered two months rent, and a lease agreement for an apartment on Cedar Avenue. Police said when the couple went to the apartment, the keys they were given by a man they knew as “Marco” did not work, and they were unable to contact him. Huntsville Police recognized first Blue Star compliant apartments" /> Huntsville Police Department More headlines The Blue Star program is a partnership between the Huntsville Police Department and local apartment complexes to "increase safety, reduce crime, and improve the quality of life for residents." Summer Tree Apartments attended the first Blue Star training class on March 22nd. HPD says that as part of the program, property owners are required to attend an 8 hour class explaining the Blue Star Program , what its benefits are, and how they can obtain Blue Star recognition . From Conway Police Department reports A note on the proceedings Sunday, Aug. 13 at 10 minutes after 2 p.m., police were called to a business on Main Street. Police arrived and found a sticky note on the business’s window upon which was written “[Redacted] Trump.” The note-writer, the officer noted, referred to himself or herself as the “Alt-right” on the same note. On another business, officers spotted another note, and with further investigation found about 10 to 15 notes attached to various local businesses. The notes were not limited to the statement of the first note, but instead included such statements as: “Justice for Muslims, Avenge Cuille,” “ Make Racists afraid again” and “ Protect LGBTQ rights .” Pictures were taken and the specifics on location were recorded. A woman and her fiancée were arrested on suspicion of murder after the woman’s 3-year-old son’s died with injuries including burns , lacerations and bruises on his body. On Wednesday night, emergency personnel were called to the Emerald Pointe apartments on Standiford Avenue for a report of a child who was not breathing, according to Modesto Police Department spokeswoman Heather Graves . Gilbert Escamilla, 3, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and was subsequently flown to Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera. Early Thursday, detectives were notified that the child had not survived. A cause of death has not been determined, but Graves said not all of the child’s injuries occurred Wednesday ; some were indicative of prolonged abuse. “How long it has been happening is hard to tell; detectives will need an expert to advise them on the injuries,” she said. FRISCO, Texas -- Police are investigating after a 43-year-old man was shot and killed during an apparent burglary Thursday . According to Frisco Police, officers were called to Stewart Creek Apartments in the 7500 block of Stonebrook Parkway. Shortly after midnight, officers received a 911 call to report someone was shot while attempting to break into an apartment.  When they arrived, they found a 43-year-old man shot. He was sent to a local hospital, where he died. Officials have not released any identities at this time.  Police said no other persons of interest are being sought in relation to the incident.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Frisco Police Department at (972) 292-6010. Members of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance made the plea while holding a news conference at 32nd Street near Fifth Avenue. Three Gloucester residents were told this week that they face time behind bars even if they agree to guilty pleas on charges they acted as a maintenance crew to enter an elderly North Andover woman 's apartment and make off with a safe containing jewelry, documents and other belongings last December. Superior Court  Judge Timothy Feeley told Michael Lorenzana, 39, of 14 Sadler St., that he could expect a prison sentence of three years and a day, while Sean Peres, 36, of 3 Lighthouse Way, would face two years and a day in state prison for their roles in the scheme that targeted an 81-year-old woman.  Barbara Brooks Williams , 50, of Gloucester, would face a 2 1/2-year term in a house of corrections, said  Carrie Kimball Monahan , spokeswoman for the office of Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett . The Pleasanton Police Department received a report Aug. 11 about 11:21 p.m. of an injured man asking for help near the entrance of the Springhouse Apartments, located at 5505 Springhouse Dr. The 51 year old male was suffering from injuries consistent with being involved in a fight and shot multiple times with a BB gun. The preliminary investigation revealed that three males had allegedly attacked the victim while he was sleeping under the Stoneridge Drive/Arroyo Mocho overpass. They shot the victim in the back and arm several times and struck him with a hockey stick. The victim managed to escape to Stoneridge Drive where he flagged down passersby who called 911. Pleasanton PD conducted an extensive area check , but were ultimately unsuccessful in locating any suspects. The two were killed in a three-alarm blaze that left 11 adults and nine children homeless. The fire destroyed their apartment and heavily damaged two of the seven others in the 100-year-old former St. Mary's Church at 62 School St. The Brelsfords -- whose names were confirmed by neighbors and co-workers but not fire or police officials -- were the third and fourth victims of fatal fires in Connecticut this week. Brelsford, 27, lived with her son in an upstairs apartment at 62-D Church Hill Apartments , where the blaze is believed to have started about 10:30 p.m. State and local emergency officials have yet to determine the cause.
