An enjoyable stay - Review of Wheelhouse Apartments, Strahan

Apartment #1 clearly does not receive a thorough&satisfactory clean between occupancies. Specifics- - unreadable airconditioner remote control due to grime. We cleaned it! -dust blown around apartment. Dirty aircon filters judging by layer of grime on top of unit. Dead spiders on surfaces and some cobwebs. Timber venetians very dusty. - greasy hand prints all over stainless steel refrigerator door and interior needed a wash. Human hair found in butter bowl. We cleaned these! Handprints on inside of panoramic Windows. -rug under coffee table full of hairs and fluff..also appeared to be very dirty/stained, as did throw rug over back of sofa, which was covering dirty marks . - upholstered window seat in lovely sunny nook , unusable due to dustiness and hairs and grime-y marks. We borrowed the cleaners vacuum from shed to find its dust bag full. We emptied it and attempted to vacuum the rug and the window seat...it was a very poor vacuum! -the washing machine was absolutely fou...

Power to the People (Solar Power, That Is)

Image
(Source: Sullivan Solar Power ) By Mark Hughes You may have heard the news: San Diego leads the country in kilowatts of solar panels installed , beating out LA and Honolulu — and by a lot. What’s going on? It’s like cell phones all over again. At first, just a few wealthy cranks have them, but before you know it, everyone and their kid has one. Was there a memo? Maybe this is you now: driving home from work, you can’t resist flicking a glance at the solar panel array on your neighbor’s roof and wonder yet again if they pay SDG&E anything. Or, you’re out for a walk and see that trim, shipshape house you’ve always admired now sports the increasingly fashionable blue/black panels. You put on a brave face, but it’s starting to eat at you: panel envy. The good news is that it’s nothing to be ashamed of and you’re far from alone. Pull up a seat, lie back, and let’s talk. Sure, you know all the valiant reasons for putting panels on your roof: a heroic reduction in greenhouse gas emissi...

Landmark Apartment’s fast growth fueled by changing housing market

Image
We’re a particularly strong and well-capitalized company with a very strong investment record . Joe Lubeck Executive chairman, Landmark Apartment Trust of America Inc. The recession and slumping housing market made the past few years a good time to invest in apartments — and Landmark Apartment Trust of America Inc. was poised to take action. By acquiring more than $1 billion in properties in 2013, Landmark now owns or manages almost 33,000 units, says Joe Lubeck, executive chairman. This correlates with increased interest in renting. “We see that a lot of people are more interested in job portability and the ability to relocate from one city based on job availability, and they also no longer perceive a house as being the solid investment that it once was,” Lubeck says. “As a result, we’re seeing significant growth in the household formative years , the 25- to 40-year-old market, where people are specifically looking to be renters by choice.” Targeting distressed properties that c...

Affordable Sticker Shock -- Climbing home and rental prices hurting chances of poorer people putting roofs over their heads | Jim Parker

Coast to coast, the housing industry currently favors the home seller as prices are rising, sales surging and inventories dwindling -- which leave the residences on the market more valuable. Take Seattle as a caffeinated example. The northwest city of 3. 5 million people boasts the hottest housing market in the country since last fall, according to the Case- Shiller home price index and reported this summer in the Seattle Times. The typical single-family house in metro Seattle cost 12 .9 percent more in April than a year ago, the report notes. Other fast-rising markets are Portland, Oregon; Dallas; Denver; and Detroit, up 9.3 to 7.4 percent respectively. Those totals compare with a 5. 5 percent national price growth rate . What's good for owners and well-off buyers can be doubly troubling for at least one group: lower income property shoppers including first-time homebuyers who can't afford average and midpoint home prices or apartment rents . According to studies, the na...

Review board unsatisfied with Capitol Hill transit development project

There were many aspects of the four- site Capitol Hill transit - oriented development the East Design Review Board liked, but confidence was not high enough to clear it for permitting on Wednesday. Situated above the light rail station , the transit- oriented development will be Capitol Hill’s largest construction project to date, creating more than 400 apartment units in a superblock that borders Broadway , 10th Avenue, East John Street and East Denny Way. Each of the four buildings will be seven stories. Three will provide around 20 percent of their apartment units at affordable levels, while the Capitol Hill Housing B-North site will include 110 units at affordability rates of 30-60 percent of the area median income . The East Design Review Board ’s last assessment of the development, which is being led by Portland- based Gerding Edlen Development (GED), was in December. Board members agreed developers responded to the guidance provided at that time, but didn’t feel every r...

Preserve at Baywood Apartments - 14 Photos & 11 Reviews - Apartments - 8300 Red Bluff, Pasadena, TX - Phone Number

11 8300 Red Bluff Pasadena , TX 77507 (281) 991-5200 Beautiful apartments, nice walking areas , great dog park , and in a great location. All the cardio equipment in the fitness center at Preserve at Baywood phase 1 is broken. I' ve submitted work orders multiple times , but nothing is being done to fix this issue. Phase 1 residents do not have access to the phase 2 gym except during business hours. This is very inconvenient. I have only been at The Preserve at Baywood for about a month now, and while there have been issues, the front office has done their best to resolve them. The apartment is in a quiet location yet close to pretty much all the stores you need to do your day to day activities. There are two HEBs with in 3 miles of it, a Target off of Fairmont, and a lot of shopping and restaurant options as well. Parking is plentiful in the first front apartments. We can arrive home around 9PM and still find spots directly in front of our apartment. Exiting the apartment can ...
