An enjoyable stay - Review of Wheelhouse Apartments, Strahan

Apartment #1 clearly does not receive a thorough&satisfactory clean between occupancies. Specifics-
- unreadable airconditioner remote control due to grime. We cleaned it!
-dust blown around apartment. Dirty aircon filters judging by layer of grime on top of unit. Dead spiders on surfaces and some cobwebs. Timber venetians very dusty.
- greasy hand prints all over stainless steel refrigerator door and interior needed a wash. Human hair found in butter bowl. We cleaned these! Handprints on inside of panoramic Windows.
-rug under coffee table full of hairs and fluff..also appeared to be very dirty/stained, as did throw rug over back of sofa, which was covering dirty marks.
- upholstered window seat in lovely sunny nook, unusable due to dustiness and hairs and grime-y marks. We borrowed the cleaners vacuum from shed to find its dust bag full. We emptied it and attempted to vacuum the rug and the window seat...it was a very poor vacuum!
-the washing machine was absolutely fouled-up with revolting old gunk in the filter bag and slime-y scum inside the agitator shaft. We had to clean the inside thoroughly to sanitise before we could comfortably use it. Also the control panel was unclean.
-the bed linen was polyester/cotton. We only checked the label because it was slippery, wasn't nice to sleep on and made you feel hot. The quilt cover had a few faint dirty marks on it and the spare blanket looked slightly grubby?
-the ensuite shower upstairs was unusable because there was a water pressure problem you only discovered when you were standing semi-wet, trying to reduce the scalding temperature... Only a trickle of correct temperature water flowed!
-luckily, there was a downstairs shower in the combination bathroom/laundry. You could enjoy a nice shower here, however, you needed to be careful as it was more a wet-room style open shower and the floor could become very wet.
-the outside BBQ was extremely dirty& unusable
- in the early mornings in April, the heating from the airconditioner downstairs did not effectively heat the upstairs open plan bedroom and ensuite located behind the bed head wall. The ensuite tiles were quite cold.
Good things:
-very clean timber floors and counter tops, bathroom basins, showers and toilets!
-stunning views
-location, peace and privacy.
If the owner ensured the cleaner routinely attended to the above unsatisfactory items, then it could deserve a 7/10 rating. It is not acceptable to charge expensive rates like these with substandard cleanliness. On our extensive travels around Tasmania, we stayed in a variety of accomodations- some more luxurious& better equipped than Wheelhouse, but, all spotlessly clean, well equipped & comfortable, and we rated as 10/10. Wheelhouse was our most expensive and our lowest rating.
Visitors should not have to feel they need to clean surfaces and items, to enable a relaxing& more comfortable stay.

Springfield police raid Worthington Street apartment, arrest 4 men on heroin and cocaine charges

SPRINGFIELD -- Four suspects, squatters in a Worthington Street apartment , were arrested on heroin and cocaine charges Thursday night after police raided the place, a department spokesman said. Narcotics officers executed their warrant at 900 Worthington St ., Suite 3, at about 8:30 p.m., Sgt. John Delaney said. People outside the building yelled out warnings as police initiated their raid. The four men were arrested after police found them hiding inside closets and a bedroom, Delaney, public information officer for the department said. Police seized $1,164 in cash along with heroin and cocaine that was packaged for sale and drug paraphernalia.
