Photo via Kev Harb via Flickr The emergency Penn Station repairs that began in July will be completed on time with regular operating service resuming on Sept. 5, Amtrak announced Thursday . After delays and a few train derailments , Amtrak closed 21 tracks at Penn earlier this summer. Nearly seven weeks of the eight scheduled weeks of repair work for this “summer of hell” have been completed thus far. Repairs at Penn Station, courtesy of Amtrak According to Amtrak, their engineers focused on the “A-interlocking” mechanism. This mechanism sorts the incoming and outgoing trains that enter and exit Penn Station from the Hudson River tunnel and the Long Island Rail Road ’s West Side Yard to the correct station tracks and platforms. This summer, Amtrak worked to totally replace some of the station’s tracks and switches. In a statement, the co-CEO of Amtrak, Wick Moorman, expressed gratitude for the customer’s patience. “We also appreciate the collaboration and support of our commu...

Preserve at Baywood Apartments - 14 Photos & 11 Reviews - Apartments - 8300 Red Bluff, Pasadena, TX - Phone Number

11 8300 Red Bluff Pasadena , TX 77507 (281) 991-5200 Beautiful apartments, nice walking areas , great dog park , and in a great location. All the cardio equipment in the fitness center at Preserve at Baywood phase 1 is broken. I' ve submitted work orders multiple times , but nothing is being done to fix this issue. Phase 1 residents do not have access to the phase 2 gym except during business hours. This is very inconvenient. I have only been at The Preserve at Baywood for about a month now, and while there have been issues, the front office has done their best to resolve them. The apartment is in a quiet location yet close to pretty much all the stores you need to do your day to day activities. There are two HEBs with in 3 miles of it, a Target off of Fairmont, and a lot of shopping and restaurant options as well. Parking is plentiful in the first front apartments. We can arrive home around 9PM and still find spots directly in front of our apartment. Exiting the apartment can ...

Plans to ease 'single biggest source of congestion' in Northern Va. move forward

WASHINGTON — Drivers who sit in one of the most agonizingly slow daily stretches of traffic in the D.C. region could get a new way around it. There are four potential options to cut down on traffic jams on and around Va. Route 28 from the area near Bull Run — the Fairfax County line — through Manassas, Manassas Park and Prince William County . Northern Virginia Transportation Authority Chairman Marty Nohe said two options tied to an extension of Godwin Drive appear the most promising. Godwin Drive runs parallel to Va. Route 28 just west of the city of Manassas. Under the plans, it could be extended along land once considered for part of a “Tri-County Parkway” past Prince William Hospital and Splashdown Water Park to connect to Route 28 either just south of Bull Run or just across the creek in Fairfax County , using Ordway Road to connect to the work already underway to widen Route 28 in Fairfax County . Any changes would also fit in with other Route 28 widening projects to the s...

Home sweet homewreck: This is the worst reno story you will ever hear

Jim Pantaleo’s phone winked out sometime after 6:00 a.m. on Aug. 1, 2012. The last message he sent before it died was to his wife, Allison. “Love you forever,” it said. And then, nothing. Jim had spent the day before writing and drinking, slowly. From his perch at the corner of an L-shaped bar at a pub in Toronto’s east end, he tapped away at his laptop. He sipped beer and he did shots of “liquid cocaine,” a mix of Jagermeister and Goldschlager schnapps. Jim had arrived at the pub, Rails and Ales, at about 3 p.m. “He seemed very normal,” says Len Grammenopoulos, the bar’s owner. He ate some food. He joked around. Sometime after midnight, he sent his mother an email with seven letters inside. At about 2:30 a.m., he paid his tab — maybe $60, $70. He high-fived Len and he walked out. “I remember him saying ‘I’m gone,’” Len says. “And that was it.” Jim was gone. When Jim and Allison Pantaleo first met — as coworkers at a pub called Gabby ’s on the Danforth — it was something close to ...

Disney on a Budget! - Review of Wyndham Bonnet Creek Resort, Orlando

I stayed here with my family of four (kids age 8 and 12) for a week during our 2nd trip to Disney. The resort is about 10-15 minutes from most of the Disney parks making it convenient for our trip. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would stay at this resort again. There are many different pools, slides, lazy rivers and hot tubs around the resort to enjoy. We were disappointed because we were told there was a volleyball court right near our building and we found out later it was taken out some time ago. This was a big deal for two people in our family who were looking forward to playing volleyball. The court is listed as an amenity on the resort website and the concierge showed us on the map when we arrived where we would find it. It was only when we asked one of the maintenance people that we found out it was no longer there. We did not have a lot of time to enjoy the many activities the resort had scheduled each day but there are a lot if that is something you are looking to do. We st...

Ann Arbor experiencing a boom in high-end apartments and condos

Image
Buy Photo The Ann Arbor City Apartments in Ann Arbor. Ann Arbor is seeing a building boom of apartments and condos for the last couple of years that continues to ramp up. (Photo: Romain Blanquart/ Detroit Free Press ) Buy Photo An unprecedented building boom of apartment high -rises and condos has made construction cranes a lingering fixture of the Ann Arbor skyline . No fewer than six cranes hovered over downtown last week as private developers raced to erect more luxury student and post-collegiate housing within walking distance to University of Michigan classrooms. The half- dozen residential projects that are under construction or slated to begin are the latest round in a boom that has been under way for at least three years and is permanently altering the city's housing situation. Many of the current and earlier developments specifically cater to U-M students, offering additional near- campus living options aside from blocks of grubby old houses. Other projects have ta...
