DANVILLE – The Danville grand jury has indicted two people with murder in connection with the Sept. 11 shooting of Paul Andrew Harper Jr . at Woodside Village Apartments in Danville. Police found Harper lying in the road in the 100 block of Woodside Drive suffering from gunshot wounds at approximately 11:23 p.m. The 19-year-old was taken to Danville Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead by emergency department staff . Tevin Lavar Stokes , 23, of Henderson, N.C., and Lashawntey Gabriel Smith , 23, of Buffalo Junction are being held without bond in the Danville City Jail . Stokes is charged with capital murder , robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, and two counts of using a firearm in commission of a felony, Smith is charged with first-degree murder and robbery. The investigation is continuing.

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Authorities have identified the suspected gunman in a fatal Charleston restaurant shooting and his victim. Thomas Demetrius Burns , 53, of Charleston, is the man police say opened fire at Virginia's on King Thursday afternoon , according to Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis . Burns was shot by Charleston Police after a hostage standoff, according to Interim Police Chief Jerome Taylor . Burns was transported to MUSC for treatment and was listed in critical condition Thursday afternoon . There have been no updates on Burns's condition since then. The restaurant's executive chef, 37-year-old Anthony Shane Whiddon , of Goose Creek, died after being shot. Whiddon was the executive chef at Virginia's on King Street where the incident took place. He leaves behind a wife and two children. The restaurant's owners released a statement Friday saying they were "deeply saddened and heartbroken" by the shooting and calling Whiddon ...

The two were killed in a three-alarm blaze that left 11 adults and nine children homeless. The fire destroyed their apartment and heavily damaged two of the seven others in the 100-year-old former St. Mary's Church at 62 School St. The Brelsfords -- whose names were confirmed by neighbors and co-workers but not fire or police officials -- were the third and fourth victims of fatal fires in Connecticut this week.
