By Eric Heinz A ruptured gas line caused an explosion inside a garage of a San Clemente home about 3 a.m. on Thursday morning , Aug. 24, on the 100 block of Avenida Dolores. Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) officials said there were no injuries in the explosion. A man and a woman who were living inside the home of the garage had only moments to escape out their back door, as the explosion caught the home on fire and blocked one of their exits.  [embedded content] The explosion of the single-story home’s garage was so massive that it spread debris all over the street, according to nearby residents. Almost nothing was left of the structure except the foundation and burt pieces of it. Because the gas line explosion took place behind the utility meter, SoCal Gas and OCFA had to shut it off by digging under the home’s driveway and manually stop it, said OCFA spokesperson Capt . EDEN — One person is confirmed dead following an early morning fire at Arbor Ridge, an assisted-living community. The victim, whose name and gender have not been released, was removed from a badly-burned, upper-floor apartment at 2:30 p.m., 13 hours after the fire broke out. Rescue crews put the victim on a gurney and lowered it to the ground with an Eden Fire Department ladder truck . “Sadly, a resident passed away,” Arbor Ridge said in a statement released Monday afternoon . “The entire Arbor Ridge at Eden family is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a cherished member of our community and our prayers are with the late resident’s family.” When the victim was pulled from the building, several friends and family members gathered in a circle across the street and prayed. There was an early morning evacuation after a fire at the Anthos Apartment complex in Kirkwood.   Camille DeLongis reports . KIRKWOOD, N.Y. -- People living at the Anthos Apartments in Kirkwood woke up to smoke and flames Tuesday morning . Fire broke out around 5:15 a.m. in one of the buildings, which had about 12 apartments inside. Firefighters say everyone made it out, but one person was hospitalized for minor injuries due to smoke inhalation. About 6 of the apartments were directly impacted by the fire, the other 6 may be salvageable, but about 20 residents were displaced. For firefighters, the age of the building posed the biggest problem. "Buildings like this, they are older buildings. They were built in the 70s, they're not sprinklered.  So these buildings are a huge challenge to the fire service because there's no automatic suppression built in. UPDATE:  PINE BLUFF, Ark. - A 3-year-old has passed away following an apartment fire on July 21. According to Authorities, one woman  and three children were transported to Arkansas Children's Hospital, after being saved from a burning apartment early Friday morning .  Officials say that during their stay at the hospital, one the children, a 3-year-old, passed away on Sunday.  Both the woman, and one child has been released from the hospital; however,  an infant still remains hospitalized.  The fire began around 1 a.m. on July 21, fire crews responded to a fire at a two-story, brick frame apartment complex located at 2200 Woodgate, Building 24, Apartment B. KIRKWOOD, N.Y. - Broome County fire officials say the apartment fire in Kirkwood was caused by improper use of candles. Broome County Fire investigators said one tenant was transported to Wilson for smoke inhalation and possibly minor burns . 10 fire departments were on scene to help as well as two ambulances. The fire started on the second floor, and then spread to the back before going up towards the roof. Fire officials said that it took several hours to contain and caused a significant amount of damage to the building.  Five Mile Point Chief Shawn Skinner said a call came in at 5:49 a.m. reporting heavy smoke coming out of the second floor unit in Anthos Apartment at Kirkwood on route 11. The fire was reported just after 4 a.m. Monday at Prince Hall Apartments on Prince Hall Lane . Fire Marshal Brad Hall said a rag was soaked in gasoline, placed between the door and screen door of an apartment and then set on fire. The call was originally reported as a fire with entrapment because the fire was outside the door, but Hall said everyone made it out unharmed. ST. LOUIS • Police said an officer shot and killed a man who had stabbed an officer inside an apartment Tuesday morning . But a woman who said she was related by marriage to the person killed said that person was a transgender woman named Kenneth “Kiwi” Herring. Fire on Independence Road (Source: WOIO) CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Cleveland firefighters are investigating a structure fire on Independence Road that was called out early Friday morning . The fire started around 5 a.m. near the intersection of Independence Road and Hugo Avenue at a building made of apartments on the second-floor, and the Royal Klassic Bar and Grill on the first. Firefighters arrived to fire showing from the building's windows, but crews were quickly able to extinguish the flames. Arson investigators were called to inspect the building, but the cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed. There are no injuries reported at this time.
