Olathe OKs apartment complex at 119th, Pflumm

The Olathe City Council on Tuesday approved rezoning 27 acres at the southwest corner of 119 th Street and Pflumm Road for a 240- unit apartment complex . The 6-1 vote came after almost a dozen neighbors spoke against the project and dozens more wrote letters and emails to the city voicing their own opposition. But while the residents were unable to scuttle the project itself, they were able to persuade the council to ax plans to connect 123 rd Street through the development to Pflumm Road as planned, a move they warned would have dumped fast-moving traffic on the doorstep of Heatherstone Elementary School . “If we are going to make considerations and alterations to the infrastructure of our city based on residents that are not here in these apartments now, I plead with you to protect the citizens that are here and living in this neighborhood now,” said Tim Laughlin, who lives across the street from the school. The thin strip of land has sat unused since being rezoned in 2001 and ...

'Who are they building that for?' | Local News

Leonnel Davis sees change in Rochester and wonders what it means for her new neighbors. "I see growth in the community but not growth around where I live," she said. Up until about three months ago, Davis was living in a home in northeast Rochester, which she was hoping to buy through a contract for deed. However a pending divorce changed her plans, and she moved with her two grandchildren, one 12 and the other 15, to a three-bedroom apartment in the Andover Apartments complex in southeast Rochester. It wasn't the first choice for the 53-year-old grandmother, but searches for three-bedroom apartment kept coming with price tags as high as $1,900 a month in buildings near the city's core. "Who are they building that for? They couldn't be building it for me," she said, noting she pays $900 for rent in her new apartment as she points to needed repairs and cites safety concerns . "I'm on disability, and I'm a single grandparent....

Aspen Heights project moves forward in Amherst

AMHERST — A large apartment complex proposed for Route 9 at the Amherst- Hadley town line continues to move through the permitting processes in both communities, even as some residents express worry about the size of the project and how it could impact their neighborhood. Amherst Planning Director Christine Brestrup said people have raised several issues with the 131- apartment Aspen Heights residential community in both written comments and orally at a Zoning Board of Appeals hearing earlier this month. One of the most prominent concerns, Brestrup said, is whether people who live at the proposed complex , to be built at 408 Northampton Road, will drive through the Greenleaves Retirement Community and Windfield Family and Senior Estates. Because Northampton Road is a divided highway, those living at Aspen Heights will have to exit the complex by taking a right, heading east, Brestrup said. To travel west toward the shopping malls, the roads through Greenleaves and Windfield migh...

They want to turn the Grade II listed Hennebique building into 26 apartments and retain two adjacent derelict factories for residential use. Their company, Allam Developments, has also applied for outline planning permission to build up to 70 new homes on nearby land. Assem and Ehab Allam A similar proposal at the same site was rejected by planning councillors five years ago. Hull housing charity Giroscope plans a self- build housing scheme But the new application says the current scheme would address previous concerns about potential noise from nearby industrial premises . However, the major development scheme has this time triggered fears it could squeeze out one of Hull's oldest engineering firms . It says it aims to "create a high quality and sustainable urban extension to Hull." The concrete- framed Hennebique building d...
