Whole Foods Market Inc. is planning to open at 360 E. Market St. next spring, the company revealed on Twitter. In response to a question about the company's plans, Whole Foods tweeted, "We are currently looking forward to the Market Square location opening in the spring of 2018." That's the first time Whole Foods has offered any indication of when it expects to open its long-anticipated store in the 360 Market Square apartment tower . A busy intersection in Shaker Heights is being transformed through the redevelopment of the Warrensville- Van Aken business district . The former Van Aken Center will connect with nearby Shaker Plaza to create the Van Aken District , a new downtown and community- gathering place for the city. A grocery store and apartment project planned for downtown would benefit Lawrence and likely deserves economic development incentives , but a low-interest loan from the city shouldn’t be among them. At its meeting Tuesday, the Lawrence City Commission will receive an incentives request from the grocery store development group led by Lawrence businessman Mike Treanor . The group is requesting a special financing district , bond agreement and a $2.25 million loan from the city to help complete the $26 million project at Seventh and New Hampshire streets on the site of the former Borders bookstore. The old bookstore will be torn down and replaced with a three-story building with an underground parking garage . The ground floor of the building would house a Price Chopper grocery store and pharmacy, and the upper two floors would house 73 apartments, according to the incentives application. SPOKANE, Wash --- Construction on the old Macy’s building in downtown Spokane will not be completed until next spring. The first two floors of the former Macy’s building were set to open for retail use as early as November. Some set-backs in construction, like flooding in the basement, has pushed back the opening date until spring. When the downtown Spokane Macy ’s closed in January 2016, renovations quickly followed. Centennial Properties bought the building and announced a plan to renovate the first two floors into a new retail space with the remaining seven floors for residential use. The new building will be called “The M,” it will feature 109 units ranging from 750 square feet to 1500 square feet. There are no price ranges set for these apartments yet. There will be a rooftop deck for all apartments that is dog friendly, it will also have a kitchen, seating and firepits. MERIDEN — A gas station under construction in the city’s downtown is nearing completion. Manager Hussein Altareb said he hopes to open the Citgo gas station , 154 Hanover St., next week. The station will feature four gas pumps and a convenience store. Altareb praised the high-traffic area around the gas station, located at the corner of Hanover Street and Cook Avenue. Workers were completing construction inside the store this week. P&P Investment Group is the listed owner of the property, which was last sold in November after it was foreclosed upon, according to city records. The principal of P&P Investment Group is listed as ZZ Management, according to state records. The principal of ZZ Management is Naeem Khalid, who has a business address in Rocky Hill. The previous gas station at the corner, Kwik Mart, owed more than $300,000 in back taxes in 2015, city records state . SOUTH BEND — Additional details emerged Thursday concerning plans for a mixed-use apartment project and full-scale brewery near Four Winds Field. “What we’re doing is we’re going to build a first-class experience but at an affordable rate,” Andrew Berlin , owner of the South Bend Cubs , said of the project. The Redevelopment Commission agreed Thursday to contribute $3.4 million to the project for building and infrastructure improvements. Situated directly outside Four Winds Field, Berlin Place will feature 120 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments and 10,000 square feet of ground- floor retail space across four buildings. Details have yet to be worked out, but rental rates will be “competitive” with the local market, Berlin said.
