Two charged in Woodside Village murder

DANVILLE – The Danville grand jury has indicted two people with murder in connection with the Sept. 11 shooting of Paul Andrew Harper Jr . at Woodside Village Apartments in Danville. Police found Harper lying in the road in the 100 block of Woodside Drive suffering from gunshot wounds at approximately 11:23 p.m. The 19-year-old was taken to Danville Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead by emergency department staff . Tevin Lavar Stokes , 23, of Henderson, N.C., and Lashawntey Gabriel Smith , 23, of Buffalo Junction are being held without bond in the Danville City Jail . Stokes is charged with capital murder , robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, and two counts of using a firearm in commission of a felony, Smith is charged with first-degree murder and robbery. The investigation is continuing.

Man shot during home invasion indicted for burglary | Morgan County

A Morgan County grand jury has indicted a Decatur man on a burglary charge after he was shot in the chest while allegedly forcing his way into a Northwest Decatur residence and threatening its occupants. The Morgan County District Attorney 's Office reported Samuel Everett Elliott , 49, of 311 10th Ave. N.W., was indicted on a charge of first-degree burglary last month. No court records were available, but Decatur police reported at the time of the incident, in November 2016, that Elliott went to the residence in the 200 block of Seventh Avenue Northwest , forced his way in, and threatened the occupants. The resident contacted the police, who came and searched the area but did not locate Elliott . Police said Elliott later returned and again threatened the resident, who then shot him once in the chest. Elliott was taken to Huntsville Hospital with a gunshot wound that did not appear to be life-threatening, according to police. No charges were made at the time, but police said th...
