It's the skinny bit between these two apartment buildings that's for sale - the 2.4m three-storey house was once a coach house.

With land at a premium and house prices rocketing, it makes sense to explore every option when you are house hunting, even if you have to compromise a little.

The owner of this 52 square-metre skinny house between two apartment high-rises doesn't seem to have compromised too much. The house is only 2.4m (8ft) wide, but it looks quite spacious inside.

And it even comes with a history, and a name. Noel Lodge, in Ealing, West London, was the original coach house for Lady Byron's School. Back in the day, a horse and coach would have driven through the archway, which is now the ground floor of the flat.

The school was opened in 1834 and continued under various names till 1917 when it was closed and eventually turned into apartments.

The owner has it well sorted, however. There are minimal walls through the interior, so each floor has an easy flow along its length, with windows at either end. At present the entry hall, dining area and kitchen are on the ground floor, with the kitchen opening to a back garden.

The second floor is the living room (or second bedroom) and the top floor the bedroom, and there are two shower rooms.
