North Texas' Austin Ranch is getting a boost from the boom at nearby Legacy West | Real Estate

All of the Austin Ranch apartment communities include parks, resort-style pools and large lounge and clubhouse buildings.

The new Hudson apartments overlooking a lake have Indonesian pavilions that were disassembled, shipped to Dallas and installed next to the swimming pool.

"If you want to create apartments that improve with time, you have to do it with giant amenities," Billingsley said. "The next building is more of a Mediterranean look. We totally change the architecture in everything we are doing."

It must be working, because the newest Austin Ranch apartments are filling up. Most of the residents are 20- and 30-somethings who like the country feel of the development, said leasing executive Billy Kirk.

"We have obviously got a lot of people who work in West Plano and Frisco," Kirk said. "But we have a number of people from Dallas as well.

"We have some people who work downtown. They like it because it feels like you are in the country, but 2 miles over is anything you need."

To meet the retail needs of Austin Ranch's growing apartment communities, Billingsley has just finished work on a six-building restaurant park at Plano Parkway and Windhaven Drive.

But like the rest of Austin Ranch, the park called The Shacks takes its inspiration from small-town Hill Country eateries.
