A Fremont man was arrested after he and another man entered an apartment in the 800 block of B Street in San Rafael and attempted to rob the residents there, police said.

Police received a 911 report at about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday from one of the residents of the apartment, police said in a press release.

When officers arrived, “one of the suspects was being held down by one of the victims,” police said.

According to the victims, one of the suspects had an AR-15 rifle and pointed it at them. One of the victims managed to wrestle the rifle away from the suspect, and the victims were able to hold the suspect on the ground until officers arrived. The other suspect fled before officers arrived.

Police booked Bertrell Lewis, 41, of Fremont, on suspicion of attempted robbery, burglary, possession of an assault weapon, possession of a high-capacity magazine and conspiracy. He was being held on $75,000 bail.

Police supplied no description of the second suspect and said they are continuing their investigation to determine his identity.
