Affordable Senior Community Opens in Richmond, IL

Full Circle Communities is bringing much-needed affordable senior housing to Richmond, Ill. Creekview Apartments, a 25-unit community, opened its doors to low-income seniors 55 and older. Novak Construction served as the general contractor of the $6 million project.

Located at 5615 Liberty St., the new 22,000-square-foot community features one- and two-bedroom apartments for $866 and $1,039, respectively. Property amenities include a computer lab, library, community room and an on-site property management office. Full Circle Communities also provides concierge amenities, including transportation services, case management, medical screenings and health and fitness resources. A natural wetlands buffer and generous landscaping with walking trails provide for an environmentally-friendly outdoor setting

ENERGY STAR Certification

The three-story facility is ENERGY STAR Certified and features include high-efficiency heating, cooling and ventilation systems, comprehensive water management systems, high-performing thermal windows and energy-efficient lighting and appliances, according to Novak Project Director Jim Hempleman. The asset has easy access to highways 12 and 173, as well as retail amenities.

Chicago-area affordability remains a challenge. To address this issue, Historic Rosenwald Courts reopened in Bronzeville following a $132 million restoration.

Cause of fatal fire at Sterling Heights apartments still under investigation

Sterling Heights fire officials continue to investigate a fire at an apartment complex that killed a 33-year-old woman and injured four other people late Wednesday at the Sterling Knolls Apartments . Laura Ann Phillips , who would have celebrated her 34th birthday Saturday , died in the blaze, officials said. Firefighters from Sterling Heights , Warren, Shelby Township and Utica responded to the fire at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday at the apartment complex, located on 15 Mile Road, east of Dodge Park Road . Sterling Heights Fire Chief Chris Martin said flames at one eight- unit building quickly spread to an adjoining eight-unit building in the complex, triggering a second-alarm. Firefighters from Warren, Clinton Township and Shelby Township assisted Sterling Heights fire crews at the scene.
