Wanted: Erin Francis Hurley

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A 28-year-old Wichita man died after being shot multiple times in northeast Wichita. It happened around 9:20 p.m. Thursday at the Woodgate Apartments in the 5400 block of East 21st.

The victim, identified as Robert Young, was transported to the hospital. He died just after midnight.

Wichita police said that the investigation revealed that Young was at the apartment visiting two men, ages 23 and 29. During the evening, the three began drinking alcohol. It was followed by an argument and fight. Young and the other 29-year-old man left the apartment. They returned a short time later and hit the door of the apartment. Police said that is when the 23-year-old man grabbed his firearm, opened the front door, and fired several shots at Young.

The 23-year-old man, identified as Kirby Dale Lewis, was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on second-degree murder charges according to jail records.

The homicide is the 34th homicide this year in Wichita.

Police said they are working with property management to address concerns of high criminal activity at that location.
