Man in court for deadly Benton Harbor shooting

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. (WNDU) - A Georgia man, charged with open murder and felony firearm in connection with a fatal Benton Harbor shooting, was in court Friday.

Shortly after 19-year-old Davion Turner was named a suspect, he turned himself in to police.

Police were dispatched to the River Terrace apartment complex on August 15 to investigate a call of a shooting.

Thirty-two-year-old Nathaniel Lee was severely wounded by gunfire. He was taken to an area hospital but died.

Officers believe Turner was in Benton Harbor to visit his father, and that Lee had been sitting in a parked car when he was shot twice in what may have been a robbery.

Turner's bond was set at $1 million with GPS monitoring.

Turner will be in court next on Aug. 31 for a preliminary hearing.
