Kentucky woman charged in daughter's drowning in Tennessee

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (AP/CLARKSVILLENOW) — A Kentucky woman whose daughter drowned in a swimming pool is facing a homicide charge in Tennessee.

News outlets report 25-year-old Kristin Mays of Elkton, Kentucky, was arrested on a criminally negligent homicide charge on Tuesday in connection with the death of her 7-year-old daughter on Aug. 12.

Detective Sgt. Jim Vaughn with the Hendersonville police said in a news release that Mays failed to maintain visual supervision of the girl while they were at the swimming pool at a Hendersonville apartment complex. The girl was discovered underwater in the deep end of the pool and pronounced dead at a hospital.

Mays is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 27. It’s unclear if she has a lawyer.
