A standout bridge over the lionized Sumidagawa river in Tokyo has been designated a Mechanical Engineering Heritage property . The Kachidokibashi bridge was at the cutting edge of Japanese manufacturing when it was built 77 years ago . The designation means it has been recognized as a technologically and historically important asset . Another six items including Japan ’s first domestically produced subway car were selected as heritage properties . The Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME) certified them on Aug. 7, which itself is labeled "Machinery Day." Mechanical Engineering Heritage was set up in 2007 by the JSME, and it has so far certified 90 items as heritage properties . COVENTRY — The town of Coventry may soon be getting its first doggy daycare facility this year, as business woman Lori Lanoue sought zoning board approval recently for a special use permit to operate a canine daycare center at 599 Tiogue Ave. Lanoue is also the owner of Creative Child, Inc. which is directly next door to the property. The new facility will be able to house up to 14 dogs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Lanoue said customers will be able to drop their dog off for the day and know that they will be taken care of, entertained and loved until they return. The animals will be required to have all required immunizations, and at this time there are no breed restrictions. Lanoue’s site designer, Lucas Murray, went before the Coventry Zoning Board this week, explaining that because the facility is different in many ways to a dog kennel and is still a relatively new market, the project required a special use permit. “This is a competitive market we’re breaking into,” Murray said. “But ...

Appellant, a public utility (Utility), provided natural gas to intervening Appellee, an apartment complex. In 2008, Utility informed Appellee that it would disconnect gas service to the entire complex if Appellee did not bring all apartment units into compliance with the National Fire Protection Association 's National Fuel Gas Code (NFG Code) within two months. Appellee subsequently filed a complaint against Utility with the Public Utilities Commission (Commission), alleging that Utility had unreasonably and unlawfully threatened to disconnect gas service to all units if Appellee refused to retrofit the ventilation system in each apartment to meet NFG Code requirements . The complaint requested that the Commission prohibit Utility from terminating service and requiring expensive remedial construction . The Commission found in favor of Appellee. The Supreme Court affirmed , holding that none of Utility's six propositions of law had merit.

First day, walked out on my "porch" to be visually greeted by an exposed beer-belly sitting on a completely upholstered couch , that was on his porch. Guess he didn't get the memo that there is indeed furniture that is made for the outdoors as well as clothing for bellies of that caliber. While this was disturbing, I will admit that there were some pluses to living at Meridian Pointe . Maintenance was pretty punctual about fixing things, neighbors were decent, and location is convenient to the highways. Also, PET FRIENDLY! But, in regards to pets, on my final walk through before moving out, a maintenance guy came to inspect my place, checked my carpet for pet damage, and told me it was in good condition . Light industry is fast being replaced by mid- rise apartment buildings , their inhabitants attracted by the short commute into town and cheaper prices than in the city's south-east. The quality of these units is, on the whole, depressingly bad; think poor ventilation and bedrooms that "borrow" natural light (a weasel word for being dark and windowless).
