In Fort Worth, Mayor Betsy Price is part of a welcoming committee for students returning to class. This upcoming school year is important for the district, which is facing an urgent need to improve student performance at some schools like John T. White Elementary and four other campuses. The five schools have been designated leadership academies . “We are immediately improving teacher quality to each one of these schools. We are extending the school day by an hour so all students will have an additional hour of reading and math. Craigslist scammer rented same apartment four times

An allegedCraigslist scammer rented the same West Oak Lane apartment four times, and police say he walked away with $10,500. Police are looking for Harry Moore, who they say showed a property on the 8000 block of N. Fayette Street once in March, twice in May and again on August 5. Moore allegedly requested a deposit for the property, but when the move-in date arrived, he devised various excuses for why it was not available. He never gave any money back, though he has set up meetings to do so, then failed to appear. The incident might serve as a reminder of the possibility of scams as college students begin returning to the city after summer break. Related Articles 6ABC tracked down one of Moore's victims. She told the station that a neighbor tried to warn her that a scam was afoot, but her boyfriend handed over $1,500 anyway. "My boyfriend said he wasn't getting any bad vibes off of him. I guess he's just really good at it ... now we're displaced and I have a 2...

Lynn Roy saw the first one around ten-thirty on July 12, 2014: "Do you know where he is?" She saw the second the next day: "Did you call the police yet?" Then a third: "Any news?" The sender, Michelle Carter , was familiar to Lynn as a girl her son, Conrad, texted. She guessed they were friends. It turned out Michelle was right to be worried: That afternoon, July 13, police found Conrad in the parking lot of the Kmart on Route 6 in Fairhaven, Massachusetts, asphyxiated by the carbon monoxide from a water pump in the cab of his F-250. The long retail spine of Sydney Road, Brunswick, just north of Melbourne's CBD, was once a prosperous trading outpost on the way to the goldfields. These days it's a bohemian mix of variety stores, op shops, halal butchers and Lebanese bakeries. Take a side street to the west, however, and a different picture emerges. Sandwiched between Sydney Road and the Upfield train line is an area undergoing rapid and widespread transformation. Light industry is fast being replaced by mid- rise apartment buildings , their inhabitants attracted by the short commute into town and cheaper prices than in the city's south-east. The quality of these units is, on the whole, depressingly bad; think poor ventilation and bedrooms that "borrow" natural light (a weasel word for being dark and windowless). The occasional jazzy façade tries feebly to make up for otherwise cheap construction amid a chorus of greys. At ground level, carpark roller doors alternate with mean pocket garden...
