College Terrace Market , the longed-for grocery store at 2100 El Camino Real in Palo Alto, finally opened on June 14, but the hoped-for crowds of customers have been slow to materialize. After a promising opening day , the market initially averaged only about 60 customers a day, said Ron Jensen, the market's director of operations. In the last couple of weeks, that number has grown as employees have moved into the First Republic Bank offices in the center's upper floors. But Miki Werness, one of the market's partners, estimated the market needs more than 200 customers per day to thrive. SOUTH BEND — Additional details emerged Thursday concerning plans for a mixed-use apartment project and full-scale brewery near Four Winds Field. “What we’re doing is we’re going to build a first-class experience but at an affordable rate,” Andrew Berlin , owner of the South Bend Cubs , said of the project. The Redevelopment Commission agreed Thursday to contribute $3.4 million to the project for building and infrastructure improvements. Situated directly outside Four Winds Field, Berlin Place will feature 120 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments and 10,000 square feet of ground- floor retail space across four buildings. Details have yet to be worked out, but rental rates will be “competitive” with the local market, Berlin said.
