Council members on Tuesday voted 5 -1, with Graham McDonald opposing , a request from Ashton Woods to rezone 75.752 acres at 6615 and 6565 Glenridge Drive from R-2 (residential) to MIX to construct a mixed-use development featuring office and commercial space , single family residences and multi- family residential units . The audience, which totaled well over 100 people, included many residents in opposition and many stakeholders from the Sandy Springs business and civic communities who expressed their desires to see the project approved . The Edmond City Council this week voted 3-1 with one abstention favoring the commercial site plan for The Campbell, to be located north of Campbell, west of Jackson and south of Edwards. Councilwoman Elizabeth Waner cast the no vote and Councilwoman Victoria Caldwell abstained from voting. Variances include : • 10' front yard setback variances on Campbell and Edwards; • Parking requirement to include a 25 percent exemption for not only the non- residential square footage of the project but also the multi-family units in the project; and • Sign variance for blade sign to extend over the right-of-way. Two buildings with streetscaping will be constructed with shared parking between them. Facing Edwards will be building A, a 39,954 square foot 3- story building housing with 36 apartments, said Randy Entz, city planner. A project that would bring 50 apartment units to El Camino Real has won a strong endorsement by the Palo Alto Planning and Transportation Commission . The Sobrato Organization plans to replace the building occupied by Mike’s Bikes at 3001 El Camino Real with two residential buildings and 19,800 square feet of retail space. One of the buildings would have 30 apartments and the other 20. The apartments would be a mix of studios and one-bedroom units. The size of the units — from 543 to 750 square feet — was a selling point for commissioners, who voted 5-0 to recommend the City Council approve the project. The Mobile City Council has approved the sale of the Water Street building known as City Hall North , clearing its way for redevelopment as an apartment complex , and a consultant on the project said that groundbreaking could come next spring. District 2 Councilman Levon Manzie announced his "100 percent support" for the project and pledged to assist developers any way he could. "I can't think of a better way to describe 350 St. Joseph Street than to say it's not now needed for public or municipal purposes," Manzie said as the council voted. A busy intersection in Shaker Heights is being transformed through the redevelopment of the Warrensville- Van Aken business district . The former Van Aken Center will connect with nearby Shaker Plaza to create the Van Aken District , a new downtown and community- gathering place for the city. Last week the East Design Review Board threw a wrench in plans to begin construction on the complex planned around Capitol Hill Station when they declined to recommend any part of the project, including Capitol Hill Housing ’s planned 110 affordable homes on the B-North site. Board members voiced a variety of concerns, from Kenny Pleasant ’s objections to color palette to the chair Curtis Bigelow ’s concerns about the location of the daycare on Broadway, which he found to be in poor taste or perhaps dangerous. There was also Bigelow’s feeling that the building just hadn’t reached a high enough pinnacle of greatness. “This is a really good building. MOSES LAKE — It being summer, construction activity is at a fever pitch. Construction continues on three separate apartment projects , houses are going up on Northeast Nelson Road , remodeling is continuing on that long- awaited Pita Pit . And, because growth has ripple effects, Moses Lake city officials have issued permits for portable classrooms at three elementary schools. The three new apartment projects are on East Nelson Road , Central Drive and Ninth Avenue. The Solara Apartments on East Nelson Road are renting to tenants in some parts of the complex while others are still under construction. The exteriors of the Pioneer Meadows Apartments have reached three stories in some sections, while construction is still at the beginning stage in others. A new initial study from the city’s planning department shows that a 39- story project proposed for Downtown’s Financial District is moving forward. The study, first spotted by Urbanize LA, offers some new timeline details: The project could get underway by the spring of 2019, with completion as soon as fall 2021. The project, called the 8th, Hope, and Grand Project, involves the demolition of a parking structure, its fantastic breeze blocks , and an adjoining surface lot running between Hope and Grand along Eighth Street. In place of the parking areas, a 39-story mixed-use development with 409 studio, one-, and two- bedroom residential units and about 7,300 square feet of ground- floor retail space would rise. Konstantinos and Helen Natsis, who have fought numerous court battles against Weehawken over their property at 353 Park Ave., have also leveled allegations of political retaliation in recent media interviews . The troubles began around 2004, when the Superior Court of New Jersey ordered the township to perform a slope stabilization project on the Natsises’ property.
