‘Real Housewives’ star Carole Radziwill shows off her glam Soho pad

Image
Bethenny Frankel isn’t the only cast member of The Real Housewives of New York City who’s invested in glamorous downtown real estate . Carole Radziwill , the journalist who joined the Bravo series in its fifth season, recently opened the doors to her Soho pad to Architectural Digest , offering a peek at a recently-completed renovation that gave her apartment the feel of a “French bordello,” according to her interior designer. Radziwill, who is the daughter-in-law of the socialite (and sister to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis ) Lee Radziwill, has lived in her Soho apartment since 2002, but the revamp didn’t start until about a decade ago. A sofa that once belonged to her mother-in-law was the impetus for the change; it needed to be completely reupholstered, and once Radziwill and her designer, John Bossard, got started, they just kept going. The living room, on the duplex’s first floor, was completely gutted; as AD puts it: Walls were refinished or repainted, and new pieces were mixed wit...

2 area apartment complexes going strong, partner says

August 25, 2008 | By Jerry W. Jackson, Sentinel Staff Writer Despite the real-estate slowdown, apartment developer Lane Florida LLC is moving forward with its Orlando-area projects. The company, launched in Orlando by Atlanta-based Lane Co. in 2006, is wrapping up work on portions of its first complex in Florida, a 384- unit development in Osceola County called Verano Apartments . Work began on Verano, located just off Exit 244 of Florida's Turnpike near Walt Disney World , in November 2007. While leasing has begun and some of the one- to three-bedroom units are occupied, work is continuing and the complex should be completed by February, according to Mike Mulhall, the company's Florida regional development partner . Mulhall said work has also begun on the company's even more ambitious downtown Orlando apartment tower , called The Montage. The 19-story high-rise is being built on Lake Avenue a block from Lake Eola. "The apartment market remains strong , and we have t...

Big projects on pace on campus

Photo by: John Dixon/The News-Gazette Though rains have caused some delays, the revamped fields along Stadium Drive between Oak and First Streets are expected to be completed by Aug. 15. The eastern half (top) will be the Marching Illini 's new practice field , and the western half (bottom) will house new campus recreation fields . Taken Thursday July 17 , 2014. Image Tough to think about on these unseasonably breezy July days , but school is just around the corner at the University of Illinois. OK, the start of classes is still more than a month away, but housing officials, construction crews and campus rental agents are busy prepping. Here's a look at some changes you will see on campus this fall. Campus Recreation / Marching Illini fields You may have noticed the giant concrete bunker at First Street at Stadium Drive, which closed off a big chunk of First Street for a while. It's actually an underground detention basin to alleviate flooding in that area, which w...

The long retail spine of Sydney Road, Brunswick, just north of Melbourne's CBD, was once a prosperous trading outpost on the way to the goldfields. These days it's a bohemian mix of variety stores, op shops, halal butchers and Lebanese bakeries. Take a side street to the west, however, and a different picture emerges. Sandwiched between Sydney Road and the Upfield train line is an area undergoing rapid and widespread transformation. Light industry is fast being replaced by mid- rise apartment buildings , their inhabitants attracted by the short commute into town and cheaper prices than in the city's south-east. The quality of these units is, on the whole, depressingly bad; think poor ventilation and bedrooms that "borrow" natural light (a weasel word for being dark and windowless). The occasional jazzy façade tries feebly to make up for otherwise cheap construction amid a chorus of greys. At ground level, carpark roller doors alternate with mean pocket garden...
