That cuts off the flow of new students to the 744-unit complex on Alafaya Trail. But hundreds of students with leases could be left to fend for themselves if they want to get out of current contracts or contracts for next school year. However, university officials said they would offer "resources, guidance and references" through a telephone hotline and online network. Officials said it's too soon to say how the decision will affect the university housing market for fall semester. About 2, 500 students live in the complex, each paying from $545 to $640 a month on year-round leases. As the Charlotte Housing Authority moves forward with plans to redevelop the aging Tall Oaks subsidized housing in the fast- gentrifying Cherry neighborhood , the last two families there say they can’t move out, in part because of improper evictions from CHA on their records. Most of the buildings at Tall Oaks, a 50- unit housing complex owned by CHA on Cherry Street near the Metropolitan shopping complex , have already been torn down. In its place, CHA is developing 81 units of new subsidized housing . The next phase of the project could include building up to 200 units of “ workforce housing ” for families making $38,500‐$77,040. POWAY -- The city's newest affordable-housing development received its first residents over the weekend, after being cleared by the city for occupancy late last week. Escondido- based nonprofit Community HousingWorks teamed up with the city to build Solara Apartments on the southwest corner of Community Road and Hilleary Place, just south of Hilleary Park. The $16.5 million, 3- acre project added 55 apartments to the city's supply of housing for low- and very- low income people . Contractors are still putting finishing touches on the complex's landscaping. Community HousingWorks asset manager Rosemary Stabrawa said Monday, however, that Solara's first residents moved in over the weekend, and more are expected to follow by the end of this week.
