Police: 3-year-old suffered burns, cuts and bruises before death

A woman and her fiancée were arrested on suspicion of murder after the woman’s 3-year-old son’s died with injuries including burns , lacerations and bruises on his body. On Wednesday night, emergency personnel were called to the Emerald Pointe apartments on Standiford Avenue for a report of a child who was not breathing, according to Modesto Police Department spokeswoman Heather Graves . Gilbert Escamilla, 3, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and was subsequently flown to Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera. Early Thursday, detectives were notified that the child had not survived. A cause of death has not been determined, but Graves said not all of the child’s injuries occurred Wednesday ; some were indicative of prolonged abuse. “How long it has been happening is hard to tell; detectives will need an expert to advise them on the injuries,” she said. Man shot in struggle with cop Sunday at Cleveland Arms apartments

A Jacksonville police officer shot a man multiple times Sunday morning after, Sheriff’s Office officials said, he took the officer’s Taser during a struggle and pointed it at the officer. The shooting followed a foot chase that began when police responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic dispute, heard a woman screaming and discovered a woman being strangled by a man on top of her inside an apartment at the Cleveland Arms apartment complex about 8:45 a.m. Devanta DeJuan Jones , 22, was shot at least four times by Officer Cliff Sames of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. The shooting happened after Sames and another officer tried unsuccessfully to stun the man, later identified as Jones, three times with their Tasers during the pursuit in which Jones kicked in the door, then ran through a neighboring apartment occupied by a mother and three children.
