Corte Madera apartment complex that sparked protests nearly ready for renting

CORTE MADERA, Calif. (KGO) -- Corte Madera's Town Council will hear a report updating the reconstruction of a brand new and controversial apartment complex , Tam Ridge Residences . Its 180 units should have opened a year and a half ago, but that was before inspections revealed water leaks and wood rot that forced MacFarlane Partners LLC to tear much of it apart, and build it again. MacFarlane's legal case against the original contractor has led to a multi- million dollar lawsuit . A company spokesperson shared little regarding the cost of this project, but said it is moving along and expects to begin renting in June. Analysts expect rents in the $3,000 to $5,000 per month range. Corte Madera approved the project after the Association of Bay Area Governments told the city it needed more high density housing . INDUSTRY GE delays opening of new building in Fort Point General Electric Co. has pushed back the expected opening of its new building overlooking Fort Point Channel by two years after deciding to break the headquarters project into two phases. GE vice president Ann Klee said in a memo Tuesday to Boston employees that executives expect the 12- story building , dubbed South Point , to open in mid-2021, compared with an earlier goal of 2019. Two older brick buildings , together dubbed North Point , will be renovated first, with the aim of opening them in the first half of 2019. GE has already started work on the two old buildings, originally part of a Necco candy manufacturing complex . Now, GE will finish the Necco buildings and move employees into them before starting construction of the new building. GE expects it will take 24 months to complete the new structure. The ann...

Bachrach Naumburger Group general manager Steve Gooley said he was always confident in getting the application through. "At the moment there is significant waiting lists to get into nursing homes in Coffs Harbour and there is very limited accommodation for retirement living,” Mr Gooley said. The half- dozen residential projects that are under construction or slated to begin are the latest round in a boom that has been under way for at least three years and is permanently altering the city's housing situation. Many of the current and earlier developments specifically cater to U-M students, offering additional near- campus living options aside from blocks of grubby old houses. Other projects have ta...
