Some say they mark history and honor heritage. Others argue they are racist symbols of America's dark legacy of slavery. A nationwide debate surrounding this issue has been underway since Dylann Roof killed nine African-Americans in a Charleston church in 2015, in an effort to "start a race war." And it flared up again after white nationalists marched last weekend to protest the removal of a Robert E. Lee statue in Charlottesville, Virginia, where one woman was killed amid violent clashes between demonstrators. The National Register of Historic Places does not keep a detailed list of Confederate memorials across the United States. One person was arrested and accused of possessing a hoax bomb after Orange County officials spent Thursday afternoon searching an apartment complex for explosives. Orange County deputies got a call about a possible bomb at the Camden Hunters Creek Apartments complex around 4:30 p.m., Orange County sheriff 's spokesman Jeff Williamson said. Officials evacuated some of the units at the complex and searched the area looking for anything dangerous, Williamson said. They did not find explosives, but did arrest one person. His name was not released Thursday night . They also closed Town Loop Boulevard at John Young Parkway , leading to traffic in the area. No injuries were reported. This is a breaking news story . At 11:55 a.m. Thursday, a Fairview West resident told police they found a body under a low-hanging bush near their house in the 2600 block of Bowie Lane, according to Corinth police Lt . Jimmie Gregg. Authorities believe it is Draper's body, but the medical examiner has not officially confirmed his identity. Gregg said police don't suspect foul play . He would not elaborate on any potential injuries or wounds found on the body. "We ask that you keep the Draper family in your thoughts and prayers and please respect their privacy during this difficult time," he said in a news release. By Eric Heinz A ruptured gas line caused an explosion inside a garage of a San Clemente home about 3 a.m. on Thursday morning , Aug. 24, on the 100 block of Avenida Dolores. Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) officials said there were no injuries in the explosion. A man and a woman who were living inside the home of the garage had only moments to escape out their back door, as the explosion caught the home on fire and blocked one of their exits.  [embedded content] The explosion of the single-story home’s garage was so massive that it spread debris all over the street, according to nearby residents. Almost nothing was left of the structure except the foundation and burt pieces of it. Because the gas line explosion took place behind the utility meter, SoCal Gas and OCFA had to shut it off by digging under the home’s driveway and manually stop it, said OCFA spokesperson Capt . Along the busy Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Dunwoody is a sprawling collection of two- story apartment buildings . The units are worn but relatively kept up. Dozens of children play soccer or run in the parking lots. And numerous vans with ladders atop their roofs indicate a working class clientele . The buildings and their occupants might be largely unremarkable, but the Dunwoody Glen and Lacota apartment complexes and their 2,000-plus mostly Hispanic residents are now the focus of a controversy that has divided this newly incorporated suburban enclave and led to a federal lawsuit . In 2011, Dunwoody officials pushed a bond referendum that would raise money to demolish two aging apartment complexes and build a sprawling — and badly needed — park. A Long Island research group is urging local governments to consider allowing more rental apartments in private homes, to help cash-strapped homeowners and provide more housing for renters. In a report released Saturday , the Long Island Index outlines the vast differences in the ways Long Island ’s towns, cities and villages deal with so- called accessory apartments , or small units within owner-occupied homes. Most Popular The approaches range from fairly accepting — as in the Town of Babylon, where homeowners can get permits to rent out apartments if they meet certain conditions — to strict, as in the Town of North Hempstead , where such units can only be occupied by the homeowner’s parent or child. CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Authorities have identified the suspected gunman in a fatal Charleston restaurant shooting and his victim. Thomas Demetrius Burns , 53, of Charleston, is the man police say opened fire at Virginia's on King Thursday afternoon , according to Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis . Burns was shot by Charleston Police after a hostage standoff, according to Interim Police Chief Jerome Taylor . Burns was transported to MUSC for treatment and was listed in critical condition Thursday afternoon . There have been no updates on Burns's condition since then. The restaurant's executive chef, 37-year-old Anthony Shane Whiddon , of Goose Creek, died after being shot. Whiddon was the executive chef at Virginia's on King Street where the incident took place. CHAPEL HILL A property management company has cut the rent at two apartment complexes to give public employees an affordable way to live in town. Chapel Hill - based Eller Capital Partners is reducing the rent for newly renovated apartments at Midtown 501 – formerly Foxcroft Apartments near Erwin Road and U.S. 15-501 – and 86 North – formerly Timberlyne Apartments near Weaver Dairy Road . The offer, which also waives application and administration fees, is available to thousands of employees who now commute from surrounding counties to work for the town of Chapel Hill , the town of Carrboro, UNC and UNC Health Care , and other state agencies. It could save them a few thousand dollars a year, said Daniel Eller, president and chief executive officer of Eller Residential, a division of Eller Capital Partners .
