The green scaffolding that was erected seven years ago and still covers the tower of Station Square Apartments at the Forest Hills Long Island Rail Road stop is set to come down this year. Martin Restituyo, president of the apartments’ co-op board, said there is finally enough money in the board’s coffers to make all the required repairs to the exterior and remove the scaffolding. The extra money came from cost-saving measures — and a few legal battles. “This year we expect to have the money to finish,” Restituyo said. “Finally we’re on the right track.” But getting there involved calling in some old debts with the help of the courts, according to Restituyo. One tenant, former board President Leonard Lombard , who owns 13 apartments in the building, agreed to pay at least $149,785 in fees to the co-op, according to court documents from a civil lawsuit. ...

Plans for the controversial Lincoln Station apartment complex are now shelved after New Lenox village trustees let a motion for a third extension to the special use permit for the project die on the floor Monday night . New Lenox Development Company , LLC had requested another extension for its preliminary planned unit development for the 208-unit complex on 16 acres near the Metra Station but the motion to approve the request was not seconded at the board’s regular meeting. The village had approved the preliminary plan for the complex in August 2015, after almost a yearlong discussion and dissent from residents. In July of that year about 100 residents had attended a special townhall to discuss the project, the majority of whom opposed it. GREENWICH, CONN. — Monument Partners LLC , an entity owned by affiliates of Starwood Capital Group and Milestone Apartments Real Estate Investment Trust (TSX: MST.UN), has entered into an agreement to acquire Landmark Apartment Trust Inc. in an all- cash transaction valued at $1.9 billion, including the assumption of existing debt. A group calling itself Say No To Rent Control announced its formal opposition Tuesday to Fair Rent Portland ‘s initiative to adopt a rent stabilization ordinance by referendum in November. The announcement sets the stage for a vigorous fall campaign , which comes as longtime residents and low- wage renters worry that a steep rise in rents and the influx of luxury housing is leading to gentrification and a growing affordability gap between incomes and housing costs.
