Apartment rents grew the most in Baytown among Texas cities for a one-year period through July, though it remained one of the lowest priced markets in the Houston area, a new report showed. The median price of a two-bedroom unit in Baytown reached $850 in July, a 10.9 percent jump over July 2014, according to the July Texas Rental Price Monitor by Apartment List . Apartment List , an apartment rental marketplace based in San Francisco, compiles the data from several hundred thousand listings it has on its site. Demand for housing in Baytown and other communities on the east side of Houston is being driven by major expansions of petrochemical plants in the region. Curiously, a one-bedroom unit in Baytown costs more than a two-bedroom unit. One-bedrooms rented for $1,150 in July after a 14.6 percent year-over-year rise, according to the report. Alvin had the second highest rate hike in the Houston region, with rents rising 9 .9 percent year-over-year to $830 for a two-bedroom unit. ...

The fact is that those people renting apartments in Columbus enjoy some of the least expensive rates in the United States, according to Apartment List , a listing website that tracks the industry. August data show that Columbus, out of 100 markets nationwide, has the fifth- lowest median lease rates , with a one-bedroom averaging $640 a month and a two-bedroom going for $760 monthly. The lowest — or cheapest — rents on the list are in Wichita, Kan., with $560 for a one-bedroom unit and $750 for two bedrooms. CHAPEL HILL A property management company has cut the rent at two apartment complexes to give public employees an affordable way to live in town. Chapel Hill - based Eller Capital Partners is reducing the rent for newly renovated apartments at Midtown 501 – formerly Foxcroft Apartments near Erwin Road and U.S. 15-501 – and 86 North – formerly Timberlyne Apartments near Weaver Dairy Road . The offer, which also waives application and administration fees, is available to thousands of employees who now commute from surrounding counties to work for the town of Chapel Hill , the town of Carrboro, UNC and UNC Health Care , and other state agencies. POWAY -- The city's newest affordable-housing development received its first residents over the weekend, after being cleared by the city for occupancy late last week. Escondido- based nonprofit Community HousingWorks teamed up with the city to build Solara Apartments on the southwest corner of Community Road and Hilleary Place, just south of Hilleary Park. The $16.5 million, 3- acre project added 55 apartments to the city's supply of housing for low- and very- low income people . Contractors are still putting finishing touches on the complex's landscaping. Community HousingWorks asset manager Rosemary Stabrawa said Monday, however, that Solara's first residents moved in over the weekend, and more are expected to follow by the end of this week.
