A Scrum Story - DZone Agile

Ready to start working on a new development project? Great! But not everything is about coding. In fact, the most difficult part comes when several people have to work together towards the same goal, and without a way to visualize all the to-do's, things can often fall apart before they begin. That's where Scrum comes into play. Scrum is a Project Management set of good practices that can be applied in any software project . In fact, it can be applied in any project that has a defined output. Scrum is based on iterations, or Sprints as they're called in the Scrum world. Each Sprint contains all the phases of a long-term project such as: Analysis Design Implementation QA At the end of each Sprint, the product increment that could be achieved during the Sprint's time will be reviewed and validated and the cycle will begin again to build a final product in an iterative way that prevents team members from getting overwhelmed. Those functional increments of the final prod...

200 Americans Living in North Korea Must Get Out by Sept. 1

When American doctor Stephen Yoon thinks of North Korea, he does not think of ballistic missile tests or the threat of nuclear war. He remembers instead a 10-year-old girl with cerebral palsy, who suffered from spastic quadriplegia that made her unable to stand or sit. Five years ago, she went to Yoon's developmental-disability program at Pyongyang Medical University Hospital , where she received treatments from Yoon and his team of local doctors. The event was heralded in North Korean state media as a national victory, but it received no notice in the U.S., where few people even know about the roughly 200 Americans like Yoon who work and live under the rule of Kim Jong Un. Carefully monitored by the regime, they have come and gone for years, doing educational, medical or infrastructural work, and sometimes raising families in a nation that has been officially at war with the ...

Mountain View's rent- control program has already survived political and legal trials -- but what about the business test? An increasing number of apartment owners appear to be cashing out rather than working under the new restrictions. If the trend continues, some say it will lead to a cascade of redevelopment spearheaded by large corporate buyers . This scenario would result in older apartments being phased out and replaced with new housing that is exempt from rent control. Those looking at the data with a more critical eye point out that sales of apartment buildings are up throughout the South Bay, and that the number of buyers indicates a healthy interest in investing in Mountain View housing , regardless of rent control. To take one example, Fremont residents Ann and Paul Lethers decided in June to sell their 18-unit complex on Del Medio Avenue in Mountain View, which they created from separate purchases of two adjacent nine-unit buildings. They say they h...
