Developers want to build apartments on a vacant plot of land off Ann Arbor-Saline Road, which was once planned to be a motel and restaurant building. Lizzy Alfs | AnnArbor.com Pittsfield Township Planning Commission will consider plans Thursday night for a proposed apartment complex behind the Oak Valley Centre on Ann Arbor-Saline Road. The Oak Valley Apartments project — proposed for a vacant piece of land behind the northern portion of the shopping center anchored by Target — calls to construct 16 buildings with 192 total apartment units . The plans were submitted to the township in late 2012 by a group of business partners who also own the northern section of the shopping center. Planning Commission considered the plans in March and asked the developers to make several changes, including reorienting two buildings on the site to better protect a wetland. Tiburon Apartments One Step Away from Final Approval

There was some confusion among Planning Commission members during their Nov. 26 meeting this week. Will The Tiburon apartment complex be built if the city doesn't create the public infrastructure necessary to sustain it? Commissioners weren't sure of the answer. In October, when City Councilmembers approved preliminary plans for The Tiburon, the council liked the idea of new development, but knew the proposed location on Olson Memorial Highway would need some public improvement, like sidewalks and improved street lighting . Councilmembers asked the Housing and Development Authority to explore the idea of designating the area near Tiburon as a Tax Increment Financing district , or a TIF district. But on Monday night, when the Planning Commission was asked to recommend approval of final planned unit development plans for the apartment buildings, some commissioners weren't sure if they should approve plans without knowing if the area would become a TIF district. Calistoga could see another 170 hotel rooms in future | Business

Downtown Calistoga could be the site for a new complex that includes a hotel, spa, restaurant and apartment rentals. On Tuesday the Calistoga City Council approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Merchant family that gives the go-ahead for a development application for the Veranda Hotel project to be located on Lincoln Avenue in a 10- acre site situated between Indian Springs Resort and the Calistoga Depot , both properties also owned by the Merchant family. “Every element of this will be up for discussion. There will be multiple public hearings both in front of the Planning Commission, as well as the City Council for consideration if any zoning amendments are required,” Mayor Chris Canning said. “And knowing the applicant and their history in town I’m sure they will also be some open community meetings that they will be willing to host.” The project includes a hotel with up to 170 guest rooms, restaurants, meeting rooms, a spa, a 4,464-square- foot event building ...

New Stage for Tall Oaks

The closing of Giant in 2007 started a slow decline of Tall Oaks Village Center , “once a vibrant and successful center that was supported by the community,” said Hunter Mill Supervisor Catherine Hudgins . “It has been over eight years and while other anchors have come and gone, the vibrancy never returned to the Center,” according to Hudgins. “Of the five Village Centers in Reston, Tall Oaks Village Center is the smallest with approximately 18 acres of land. It has been in decline without a stable grocery store anchor tenant since 2007,” according to Mary Ann Tsai, with the county’s Planning Staff . “It is approximately 86 percent vacant .” The Board on Tuesday, July 26 approved Jefferson Apartment Group ’s proposal to build a total of 156 residential units consisting of 44 t...

The Latest: 2,000 people rescued from flooding in Houston

A project that would bring 50 apartment units to El Camino Real has won a strong endorsement by the Palo Alto Planning and Transportation Commission . The Sobrato Organization plans to replace the building occupied by Mike’s Bikes at 3001 El Camino Real with two residential buildings and 19,800 square feet of retail space. One of the buildings would have 30 apartments and the other 20. The apartments would be a mix of studios and one-bedroom units. The size of the units — from 543 to 750 square feet — was a selling point for commissioners, who voted 5-0 to recommend the City Council approve the project. Commission Chairman Michael Alcheck said he’s happy to see a mixed-use housing development on El Camino near public transit, offices and services. “As a city, collectively, we have identified this area as exactly suitable for what is being proposed,” Alcheck said. “We often talk about housing a lot on this commission and this is exactly what I have been yearning for. It’s really ...

Stanton | AnnArbor.com Neighbors of a proposed 294- unit apartment complex at Nixon Road and M-14 say they're concerned about adding more traffic to an already congested area. About two dozen residents attended a citizen participation meeting hosted by the developer Tuesday night at the Traverwood Branch Library in Ann Arbor. In Exton area, an explosion of building activity

WEST WHITELAND >> Call it the development of Exton, 2.0. The area is undergoing a renewed interest with development that has the township buzzing with new projects. From a new supermarket – a Whole Foods, which the township has been told will open in January – to a post- operation rehabilitation facility , with plenty of housing in between, the Exton area is a hot spot for building again with more than 20 projects in the ground or on the drawing board. “There’s a lot happening now,” observed Mimi Gleason , West Whiteland ’s township manager. “A lot of it is because of the economy, the pent-up demand, and a lot of it is because the three supervisors we have now wanted to encourage redevelopment.” Advertisement The completion of the Exton Square Mall in 1973 helped put the Exton area on the map and through the decades leading up to the 2008 Great Recession the township saw steady growth with the development of other retail centers like Whiteland Towne Center , Fairfie...

Aspen Heights project moves forward in Amherst

AMHERST — A large apartment complex proposed for Route 9 at the Amherst- Hadley town line continues to move through the permitting processes in both communities, even as some residents express worry about the size of the project and how it could impact their neighborhood. Amherst Planning Director Christine Brestrup said people have raised several issues with the 131- apartment Aspen Heights residential community in both written comments and orally at a Zoning Board of Appeals hearing earlier this month. One of the most prominent concerns, Brestrup said, is whether people who live at the proposed complex , to be built at 408 Northampton Road, will drive through the Greenleaves Retirement Community and Windfield Family and Senior Estates. Because Northampton Road is a divided highway, those living at Aspen Heights will have to exit the complex by taking a right, heading east, Brestrup said. To travel west toward the shopping malls, the roads through Greenleaves and Windfield migh...
