The Quarters has experienced construction setbacks leading to minor inconveniences for tenants. By Emily Wangen emily-wangen@uiowa.edu A new off- campus housing complex has experienced a long string of setbacks after 14 months of construction because of the weather, officials say. The Quarters, located near Highway 6 East, houses 880 tenants in 352 apartments, with the vast majority being students at the University of Iowa and Kirkwood Community College .  Tenants have experienced wiring issues , uninstalled washers and dryers, Wi- Fi connectivity issues , and an unfinished clubhouse. Despite the problems, the complex abided by the fire- life safety requirements by the time tenants moved in, said city senior housing inspector Stan Laverman . August 25, 2008 | By Jerry W. Jackson, Sentinel Staff Writer Despite the real-estate slowdown, apartment developer Lane Florida LLC is moving forward with its Orlando-area projects. The company, launched in Orlando by Atlanta-based Lane Co. in 2006, is wrapping up work on portions of its first complex in Florida, a 384- unit development in Osceola County called Verano Apartments . Work began on Verano, located just off Exit 244 of Florida's Turnpike near Walt Disney World , in November 2007. While leasing has begun and some of the one- to three-bedroom units are occupied, work is continuing and the complex should be completed by February, according to Mike Mulhall, the company's Florida regional development partner . Mulhall said work has also begun on the company's even more ambitious downtown Orlando apartment tower , called The Montage. WASHINGTON — Drivers who sit in one of the most agonizingly slow daily stretches of traffic in the D.C. region could get a new way around it. There are four potential options to cut down on traffic jams on and around Va. Route 28 from the area near Bull Run — the Fairfax County line — through Manassas, Manassas Park and Prince William County . Northern Virginia Transportation Authority Chairman Marty Nohe said two options tied to an extension of Godwin Drive appear the most promising. Godwin Drive runs parallel to Va. Route 28 just west of the city of Manassas. Under the plans, it could be extended along land once considered for part of a “Tri-County Parkway” past Prince William Hospital and Splashdown Water Park to connect to Route 28 either just south of Bull Run or just across the creek in Fairfax County , using Ordway Road to connect to the work already underway to widen Route 28 in Fairfax County . INDUSTRY GE delays opening of new building in Fort Point General Electric Co. has pushed back the expected opening of its new building overlooking Fort Point Channel by two years after deciding to break the headquarters project into two phases. GE vice president Ann Klee said in a memo Tuesday to Boston employees that executives expect the 12- story building , dubbed South Point , to open in mid-2021, compared with an earlier goal of 2019. Two older brick buildings , together dubbed North Point , will be renovated first, with the aim of opening them in the first half of 2019. GE has already started work on the two old buildings, originally part of a Necco candy manufacturing complex . But construction on the new building was supposed to happen concurrently with much of the Necco renovations. Now, GE will finish the Necco buildings and move employees into them before starting construction of the new building. GE expects it will take 24 months to complete the new structure. The ann...
