MOSES LAKE — It being summer, construction activity is at a fever pitch. Construction continues on three separate apartment projects , houses are going up on Northeast Nelson Road , remodeling is continuing on that long- awaited Pita Pit . And, because growth has ripple effects, Moses Lake city officials have issued permits for portable classrooms at three elementary schools. The three new apartment projects are on East Nelson Road , Central Drive and Ninth Avenue. The Solara Apartments on East Nelson Road are renting to tenants in some parts of the complex while others are still under construction. The exteriors of the Pioneer Meadows Apartments have reached three stories in some sections, while construction is still at the beginning stage in others. Most of the exterior walls are up at the Central Park Apartments on Central Avenue. If the three projects are completed to their permitted size, they will add 546 apartments to the city’s inventory. The company, launched in Orlando by Atlanta-based Lane Co. in 2006, is wrapping up work on portions of its first complex in Florida, a 384- unit development in Osceola County called Verano Apartments . Work began on Verano, located just off Exit 244 of Florida's Turnpike near Walt Disney World , in November 2007. While leasing has begun and some of the one- to three-bedroom units are occupied, work is continuing and the complex should be completed by February, according to Mike Mulhall, the company's Florida regional development partner . Mulhall said work has also begun on the company's even more ambitious downtown Orlando apartment tower , called The Montage. A busy intersection in Shaker Heights is being transformed through the redevelopment of the Warrensville- Van Aken business district . The former Van Aken Center will connect with nearby Shaker Plaza to create the Van Aken District , a new downtown and community- gathering place for the city.
